This living room was built in layers

 

This living room belongs to a 1929 Tudor tucked into a quiet, established neighborhood — the kind of home with good bones, generous light, and nearly a century of character already built into its walls. A house like this doesn't need to be reinvented; it needs to be honored. So the work here was about layering in warmth and personality while letting the architecture stay the star.

I built the room in layers. A velvet sofa anchors the space and softens it, a quiet nod to comfort over showpiece. Gold nugget lamps catch the light and add just enough shine, while faux snakeskin end tables bring texture and a little edge. At the center, a mirrored coffee table doubles the patterned rug beneath it, reflecting the print back up into the room so the whole arrangement feels considered from every angle.

The graphic piece on the wall I found by chance — spotted in a gallery window as I walked past — and it became the room's jolt of color, the reason everything else stays calm around it. The result is a living room that feels collected rather than decorated: a touch of glamour, grounded in warmth, and entirely at home in a house with this much history.
