Where History Meets Home

This project took four months and was an entire house remodel, a 1917 Dutch Colonial on Alvarado Terrace, one of Walla Walla's most storied and beautiful historic streets. This home had passed through only three families in over a hundred years.

A house with this much history deserved a renovation done with the same level of intention and craftsmanship that built it in the first place. Every wall, every system, every surface was reimagined from the ground up, with a deep respect for the architectural integrity.

I started where every great home begins, the kitchen. Shaker style cabinetry was chosen for its clean lines and timeless character, finished with a mix of antique brass hardware, a classic farmhouse sink grounds the space, while Italian rustic tile laid in a herringbone pattern brings texture, depth, and an Old World craftsmanship. Commercial grade appliances give the kitchen the kind of performance that serious cooking. And a larger window was added overlooking the newly landscaped yard and pool.  It also flooded the space with natural light and connecting the interior to the beauty just outside.

But a kitchen in a home like this isn't just for cooking, it's for gathering. The backsplash behind the range is a custom hand-crafted tile medallion sourced from Eastern Europe, where artisans still practice the kind of intricate tilework that takes years to master.

The bar was designed to feel like something you'd find tucked into a Parisian side street, open shelving styled after a classic French bistro, where glassware, bottles, and curated objects are as much a part of the design as the tile and the brass. It's the kind of bar that makes guests feel like they've walked into somewhere intentional.

Whether someone is mixing a cocktail or pouring a mocktail, it gives everyone a place to land, to linger, and to feel completely at home. Because that's what a great kitchen does, it pulls people in and makes them want to stay.
